Work It Out Wombats

Meet Malik, Zadie and Zeke

Airing weekdays | 11:30AM

Overview

The new PBS KIDS animated preschool series Work It Out Wombats! follows a playful trio of marsupial siblings—Malik, Zadie and Zeke—who live with their grandmother (named Super!) in a fantastical treehouse apartment complex called the Treeborhood. The residents of the Treeborhood—wombats, snakes, moose, kangaroos, iguanas, fish, tarsiers and eagles—bring varied skills, abilities, traditions, assorted ways of thinking and different family structures to this diverse and vibrant community of neighbors.

Each day, the Wombats discover an exciting new challenge that puts their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test. And thanks to their collaborative network of family, friends and neighbors across the Treeborhood, they always win the day!

Curriculum

In each story, the Wombats demonstrate computational thinking (CT) for preschoolers—a way of thinking that enables them to solve problems, express themselves and accomplish tasks using the practices, processes and ideas at the core of computer science.

When faced with a new challenge, the Wombats stop, take a breath, put their heads together and figure out a fix—using the design process, sequencing, debugging and other key elements of CT.

Sample Stories

Each episode of Work It Out Wombats! includes two, 11-minute stories.

Junior Supers

When Super stubs her toe on a bowling ball (ouch!), Zadie and Malik offer to help her tackle a big mess in the Starlight Room. To get the job done on time, they learn to use Super's special trick for breaking down BIG jobs into smaller ones!

Snout and About

It’s all hands on deck as Zadie and Malik try to find Zeke’s beloved stuffy by retracing their steps from the night before. Poor Snout just might STAY lost, unless Zeke can remember the very last time he saw him.

Crab Quakes

Detective Wombats are on the case, solving the mystery of a scary-weird sound that has frightened the Crabs. Tracking noises all over the Treeborhood leads to a surprising solution. (Once the cause is found, the effect isn’t scary at all!)
