Join Tri States Public Radio for a FREE public screening of WQPT PBS’ 2024 documentary celebrating Elizabeth “Lizzie” Magie, a Macomb, Illinois native and the inventor of The Landlord’s Game—the precursor to the iconic Monopoly game.
More Than Monopoly: The story of Lizzie Magie explores Lizzie’s visionary invention and how, in 2024, the small town of Macomb—located in the historic 'Forgottonia region' made headlines by creating the world’s largest augmented reality Monopoly game. Additionally, the documentary highlights Macomb’s innovative spirit and unwavering commitment to creativity and community.
Filmed entirely in Macomb, Illinois, the documentary features interviews with key local figures who played pivotal roles in bringing the downtown life-size Monopoly game to life. Interviewees include Jock Hedblade and Jan Armstrong of the Macomb Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Mayor Mike Inman, local historian Allen Nemec, attorney Justin Bougher, Sean West of Forgottonia Brewing, Gabe Stevens of MasterPiece Customs, and eATLAS team members Kelly Kniewel and Jon Matuzak.
